Tomas here,

So I recently saw “Ad Astra”

Starring Brad Pitt as the savior of our world.

It’s definitively a weird movie experience this one.

But I actually really liked it.

Bare in mind that I love Sci-Fi movies.

Interstellar is actually my favorite and still undefeated.

But this one comes pretty close to something truly epic.

There are some repetitive sequences here and there. But that’s a minor thing.

The biggest problem is…

IT EMOTIONALLY FALLS SHORT AT THE END

One of the things I was expecting at the end is a much powerful song which truly emotes what is happening.

The idea and the execution is great, but lacks that thing that Interstellar gave.

It would just give you the chills just by listening to the song alone.

This one lacks that powerful ending song that the movie itself was creating visually and emotionally.

NOW THE GOOD STUFF

There are some spectacular moments, scenes that’ll stick up with you forever.

In terms of action, the scene where pirate rovers attack Brad is unique. It’s something you’ve never experienced before.

Brad Pitt is great in this one, you can actually see it in his eyes the multiple emotional layers he is passing through.

He is becoming a very talented actor. Even thought he always was, you can fell something more personal and deep in him.

THE SOUNDTRACK IS AMAZING

Yeah I know that my biggest complaint was the ending song.

But the Soundtracks is amazing till that very moment.

Composed by Max Richter and additional music by Lorne Balfe.

Both composers that I love.

You can definitively tell during the movie which tracks are from each composer.

The opening song is a classic Max Richter signature composition, and the action driven scenes has that Lorne Balfe distinctive tone.

THE SFX ARE EPIC!

I really liked the Sound mixing in this one.

They really thought about how to differentiate from other movies.

As Interstellar, this one stays realistic to “NO SOUND IN SPACE”

But when you come up to a character perspective you can hear every little detail.

Specially the pirate attack. It sounds very cool.

Since I don’t like to talk in depth about the technical side of editing.

I’ll just say that the Sound Effects in this movie are epic.

FINAL THOUGHTS

At various moments I had that feeling of an epic space adventure building up, and felt really cool.

I don’t like to spoil anything but the movie is definitively a watch if you are into some Sci-Fi epic adventure.

Specially if you would like to see a mix of “Apocalypse Now”, “Interstellar”, “The Thin Red Line” and “2001 a space odyssey”.

“What do you say Tom, should I watch it in theaters?”

Yes friend!

Overall, I really enjoyed this movie.

I will give Ad Astra a:

8/10
